BGFAX allows sysops to receives faxes on their BBS telephone line without needing a fax switch box and real fax machine.
- Everything runs in the foreground, no TSR programs needed
- If you are already running a Fido mailer, you can configure your mailer to exit and run BGFAX when the line is hot, thus BGFAX does not necessarily have to answer the phone itself
- Comes with a small and quick fax viewing program that supports CGA, EGA, VGA, and VESA SVGA display modes as well as options for fax printing and FAX-to-PCX conversion
- Works with modems that offer a feature known as adaptive answering on Class 1, Class 2, Class 2.0 and ZyXEL fax modems
- Can send faxes via the command line and return status by errorlevel; fully configurable top of page banners on outgoing faxes so that user names and phone numbers can be there.
New with this version:
- New (added) help files (*.TXT in included HELPME.ARJ).
- OS/2 Warp Bonus Pack's Faxworks/2 fax format has been added. (Note that at present, BGFAX/2's VIEW.EXE utility will _NOT_ correctly view Faxworks/2 files.)
- Many BGFAX/2 (OS/2) releated bugs have been fixed (TRAP errors, etc.)
- BGFAX/DOS now allows one to use hardware (CTS) flow control while sending, which helps under multitasking environments (DV and Windows).
- Many LaserJet and DeskJet printing (PCL) problems fixed.
At present, VIEW.EXE will _NOT_ correctly view Faxworks/2 files. You
must use the Faxworks/2 program ("open log" function) to do this. Since
you must use the "open log" function, you must tell BGFAX to save faxes
in the \FAXWORKS directory rather than the \BGFAX directory.
- BGFAX/2 now allows for OS/2 programs to pass the hot com handle number to BGFAX/2. (Binkley/2, MainDoor/2, Lora/2 people.)
- New command line switch: BGFAX /HOST /SB will spawn DOBBS.CMD. (OS/2 version only, relating to use with Maximus/2, see MAXIMUS2.TXT)
- BGFAX/2 will now store the COM HANDLE in the DOBBS.CMD file instead of the com port number as it was doing before. (BGFAX/DOS will continue to write the com port number in the DOBBS.BAT file.)
- New command line switch: BGFAX /SEND /HW (for hardware (CTS) flow control).
- BGFAX /HOST mode can now be terminated by semaphore files.
- BGFAX will now pass a second parameter to the DOPRINT.BAT (DOPRINT.CMD) file. The second parameter will be the remote fax ID, with underscores replacing spaces.
- Some of the older Class 1 modems do require a 19200 shift. To handle this situation, a new com port modifier is available, the minus sign.
- A new command line switch for VIEW, /LP --- this switch means you plan to use 'legal sized' paper on your laser printer.
- New command line switch: BGFAX /HOST /ND (No incoming data callers).
